Wherever Here Might Find You

To begin this journal from where I sit is, indeed, an intriguing contrast. In considering the holiday season, we find ourselves in a big warm brownstone in Brooklyn. And yet, the contrasts are illustrative of what we’re shaping here at Trapper Creek Guiding & Provisions Co.  

You see, 1850s Brooklyn brought about men and women, children, packhorses, chickens, wagons, and the grand ideas of a new world. Pioneers, all. The shopkeepers, blacksmiths, bartenders, prospectors, tailors, fisherfolk, hoteliers, woodsmen, poets, miners, actors, sporting women, tanners, cobblers, barbers. They were trading. Goods, services, information, and labor. The place was rough and ready. Not unlike those who would find themselves in the shadows of the Selkirks in the same era.

Trapper Creek Guiding & Provisions Co. is about place. Whether a destination or home, it’s here. For us, it’s the mountains and its crystalline lakes and its winding creeks, tributaries, thoroughfares, and the rivers that cut through volcanic rock moved by centuries of violent and natural movements of land and water.
